The Barton family, originally from Ireland, have long been associated with Bordeaux and claret. Hugh Barton bought Chateau Langoa-Barton in 1821 and the part of the Leoville vineyard that is now known as Chateau Leoville-Barton in 1826. The wines are quintessential claret of the Medoc, showing a grace and elegance in delivering the crisp, textured flavours of classic red Bordeaux at prices that belie their intrinsic quality suggested by their third and second growth classifications. This tasting will provide a fascinating comparison of the two estates across three excellent vintages: 2010, 2009 and 2005. To close out the tasting, the 1999 and 2000 vintages of Chateau Leoville-Barton will also be shown.
