Taberna Wine Academy is pleased to announce that we are now a Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Approved Program Provider offering WSET Levels 1 to 3.
We have an upcoming WSET Level 2 run in Dec 2018.
The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits is intended for those who have little or no previous knowledge of the broad range of wines and spirits. It is suitable wherever a sound but simple level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies for example, in the customer service and sales functions of the hospitality, retailing and wholesaling industries. It is also useful for those who have a general interest in the subject.
Course Outline:
- How wine is made
- Factors that influence wine style
- The key white and black grape varieties and their characteristics
- The production of sparkling, still, sweet and fortified wines
- Key principles and methods used in the production of spirits
- Basics of storage, selection and service of wine
- How to describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Course Assessment:
A closed-book examination of 60 minutes duration consisting 50 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each.
In order to be awarded the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits, candidates must achieve a minimum pass mark of 55%.

The course is conducted by Annette Scarfe MW. Annette Scarfe MW was awarded the prestigious Master of Wine (MW) title in 2012, winning the Noval Award for her dissertation on Ribera del Duero. She is an active member of the Education and Events committees of the Institute of Masters of Wine
She consults for international companies on the business of wine. Annette also runs tastings and masterclasses for media, trade and consumers internationally. She is a WSET and Bordeaux educator and runs courses in Asia. Additionally Annette is a wine buyer and restaurant consultant.
Annette is a regular member of tasting panels for consumer magazines and judges extensively at wine competitions across 3 continents. Annette has lived in Singapore for 20 years.
The course cost includes course materials, wines, 16 hours of lecture and guidance, exam evaluation by WSET UK and final certification from Wine and Spirits Education Trust. The process for receipt of final certification is about 3 weeks.
